I'm a journalist and writer living in my hometown of Oakland, CA, after 25 or so years in my beloved New York City.

 

I have extensive experience managing local newsrooms across the country and am an expert in launching new outlets.

I'm a part-time features editor for KFF Health News, which publishes public health journalism for partners including the Washington Post, CNN, and LA Times, among other outlets.

Before that, and having my daughter, I was executive editor at The San Francisco Standard.

These days, I'm writing a lot about my journey as a "super-old new mom" for outlets including Parents Magazine and Slate.
